The Church of the Holy Family
Music Ministry

Hello!  My name is Nicole Bernier and I’m the Music Ministry Director at our wonderful parish.

Our Music Ministry program is just that…a ministry.

A way to reach people, touch their hearts and express the general theme for the Mass or service.

There are generally two things that change at weekend Masses.  The homily and the music.  Much time and effort is put into blending these together as much as possible so you can get the most of our Liturgy.  Music is just one more way to pray, to come together in worship and share our love for each other and our God.

Our Music Ministry program strives to offer something different at all times.  Our parish has grown to over 1200 families.  That means many likes and dislikes.  There is no way to please that many people all the time, so we offer a wide variety…something for everyone.  We currently have 16 Cantors, and Adult-Choir  with 25 members, a Youth Choir with 46 members, and a Folk-Group with 14 members. We are also very fortunate to have Sherry McGill as organist, who has been with this parish since its birth.  You cannot find a more loving, special person!

Cantors

Each Cantor has a particular style, some more classical, cont. rock, traditional etc. etc.  All great!  Each Cantor sings at Masses that are convenient for them on a rotating basis,  some months not at all.

Adult-Choir

Our style ranges from traditional to Gospel, emphasis on Gospel!  We rehearse each Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00.  We sing at alternating Masses every other weekend.  This is something most members do for them.  A time to recharge your batteries, a time for camaraderie and lots of fun!  They are SO GOOD too!

Youth-Choir

This ‘high-energy’ group sings all the same songs from our Hymnal with a full drum/orchestra back-up and also lots of contemporary music.  Definitely a ‘Baptist-twist’!  They certainly pack the church when they sing!  We meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 and sing at alternating Masses every 3rd weekend.  The members learn much more than music.  They learn about helping each other, about different aspects of the Liturgical year and Mass, about working together and having LOTS of fun.  If a child is able to read, and sit through Mass quietly, they can join!  We like to keep our members right up until they go off to college! We sing every other weekend alternating between the 5:00pm mass on Saturday and the 10:30am mass on Sunday.

Folk-Group

This group has really come a long way.  Each member has found their ‘niche’ and has really come together nicely.  We use guitars, tambourine, keyboard, flutes, and would LOVE to have a drummer, bass player and more guitarists join us. We do a serious amount of laughing during or rehearsals thanks to a few members whose talents are not just musical!.  Our rehearsals are held on Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 and we sing every other weekend alternating Masses.

Each group gets a schedule in September which includes all scheduled rehearsals and Masses for the year, (September through June).  The common thread all these have is that we have FUN.  We love what we do; we love each other, and love our Ministry.  That comes across in all that we do, and is probably the reason that we are growing so quickly.

I know with all my heart that God had plans to bring me to this parish family a very long time before the parish was even formed.  I love my ministry, and all those who I have had the pleasure of working with and meeting.  This is one GREAT place, truly a Holy Family of its own.  I always welcome suggestions, ideas, comments….any time.  It is never too late to join us…just stop by and introduce yourself!
